Sermon preached by Pastor Joshua Hall at Sparta Reformed Presbyterian Church on November 4, 2018.
This morning we will see three ways in which God is the God of the nations: He created the nations, He watches over the nations, and He grants the nations their inheritance. This was a lesson for the Israelites who were being brought out of Egypt and had no home, that they too should look to God for their inheritance. God would take the land of Canaan from the Canaanites and give it to the Israelites for three reasons: because of Ham’s sin, Noah’s curse on Canaan, and their own wickedness. Like Israel, we must look to God for our inheritance; Israel’s promised land foreshadows our promised land. While Israel wandered in the wilderness 40 years waiting for their inheritance, we wander on this earth waiting for the return of Christ. Our citizenship is in heaven with Christ. When He returns, we will receive the fullness of our inheritance. So let us look to God for our inheritance in Christ!
Proposition: Since God is the God of the nations, we must look to Him for our inheritance.
First Point: Since God created the nations, we must look to Him for our inheritance.
Second Point: Since God watches over the nations, we must look to Him for our inheritance.
Third Point: Since God grants and sometimes takes each nations inheritance, we must look to Him for our inheritance.
