Sermon preached by Pastor Joshua Hall at Sparta Reformed Presbyterian Church during the morning service on December 23rd, 2018.
In Genesis 12, God called Abram to leave his country, people, and family for a land God would show him. He promised that he would give Abram a land, a great multitude of descendants and that all the nations of the earth would be blessed through him. Abram then faced several tests of faith. In the second half of chapter 12, he chose poorly when he abandoned the promised land for the provisions of Egypt, and abandoned his wife for the wealth of Pharaoh, but God taught him a lesson through the rebuke of Pharaoh. Then in chapter 13, Abram wisely gave Lot the pick of the land. Abram lived in the land of promise while Lot foolishly chose the fertile land of the wicked. In chapter 14, Lot was carried away into slavery by wicked kings. Abram went in faith and the strength of the Lord defeated the wicked kings with a small force, and then took none of the plunder for himself. Abram grew in faith, he learned to trust God and look to Him for his reward. In this chapter, God grants him a very great reward.
