It is easy to forget to give God the glory for all the wonderful things He has done. We forget when we are busy, when we are preoccupied with our to-do list, when life is tough and we are simply trying to survive, and when life is good and we are enjoying ourselves. But unless we are actively glorifying God, we are wasting our lives, no matter what good things we may think we are accomplishing.
Psalm 127:1-2 says, “Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain. It is in vain that you rise up early and go late to rest, eating the bread of anxious toil; for he gives to his beloved sleep.”
Beloved, the life lived to the glory of God is the life which God builds, and it is the life surrendered to God for His purposes. And unless we are living for the glory of God, we are the ones building the house in vain.
There is, however, a better reason to glorify God in all we do. We were made for worship. That is, we were made to declare the worth of God. And unless we are worshipping God, we are falling short of His glory, and we will not live a fulfilled life. Perhaps this is why God reminds us in I Corinthians 10:31, “So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.”
The question we must then ask is, how can I glorify God? The Bible teaches us many ways of glorifying God. We glorify God when we place our trust in Jesus and not in our works to get us to heaven. We glorify God when we give Him the credit for our accomplishments. We glorify God when we obey His commands and love the Lord with everything we are and our neighbors as ourselves. We glorify God when we sing His praises and when we share with others about all that God has done for us. We glorify God when we thank Him for our food, when we tell our children about Jesus, and when we work on the job site as though we are working for the Lord, doing only our best.
Beloved, let us give glory to God today. Let us recognize that every good thing we have is a gift from God, and let us thank Him. Let us tell God of His good works, praising Him. And let us do everything we do in the name of God and for His glory. May we never take the credit for what God has done! To God alone be the glory forever and ever! Amen!
