Good Morning, Brothers and Sister!
Well, the past couple of weeks have certainly been an adventure for us! If you have been watching the news, you have witnesses the spread of the Novel Conoravirus and its effects on the world. The stock market has lost a third of its value, schools have shut their doors, restaurants are closed, and there is a run on toilet paper. For some, this is a scary time. But for those of us who know the Lord, there is no reason to fear. God is still on His throne. He has always been faithful in the past, and He always will be faithful. He will get us through this time, and He will strengthen His church through these trials.
We at Faith Presbyterian Church have taken steps to ensure your safety. Until the schools reopen, we will not meet personally for public worship, but online. A modified service will be recorded by Tom and Pastor Joshua and posted online every Sunday morning. Our small groups and committee meetings will either be postponed or held via teleconference or videoconference. All pastoral visitation will be replaced with phone calls and letters. We are following the recommendations of our government and health professionals.
It is difficult for me to justify postponing public worship. Hebrews 10:24-25 says, “And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.” We could hold services despite the warnings of government officials, believing that God would protect us from this virus. But in this case, it seems to us that the loving thing to do is to gather from a distance rather than in person.
So I want to encourage you to call one another and pray together over the phone. Read an encouraging verse of scripture to someone. Send texts with an encouraging word. In todays world with lots of technology, it is not hard to encourage one another from a distance. Please make a special effort to do so until we can meet again.
Also, please do not neglect the public preaching of the Word of God. If you are able, listen to our services on Sunday mornings. You may listen to them at our website, www.fpcq.org.
If you or a loved one falls sick, please let us know. Crystal and Pastor Joshua will be working primarily from home until the schools reopen. But you may contact them directly. Call Joshua at 615-988-1231, or Crystal at 217-653-1571.
I will begin posting brief prayers and encouraging devotionals online 2-3 times a week until this crisis is behind us, so stay tuned!
