Remember “Elohim” God our Creator and Judge!

Devotional by Pastor Joshua Hall; Faith Presbyterian Church of Quincy, IL; April 30, 2020

Good Morning, Brothers and Sister!

God has always been faithful to his people. And he always will be!

Today we are considering another name of God, “Elohim”. This is one of the most popular names of God in the Bible, occurring over 2000 times in the Old Testament. It refers to God as creator and judge. We find this name of God first in Genesis 1:1

“In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.” (ESV)

Let us pray…

I find great comfort knowing that God created the heavens and the earth! As you probably know, God spent 6 days making everything, and rested on the seventh. He made all things except mankind simply by speaking the Word. He then made man by forming him out of the dust of the earth and breathing into his nostrils the breath of live. After a season of loneliness, God put Adam to sleep and took a rib from his side with which he made a woman. God showed great care in making all things. Consider the sun, moon and stars, the vastness of the universe, the beauty of the night sky, the warmth of the morning sun, and the dazzling display of a good sunrise or sunset. What artist can compete with the vastness of God’s beauty on display in the many creatures, landscapes, and vegetation He has made? God not only made all things, but He takes care of all things! He feeds the birds, cares for the beasts of the field, and provides all that the sea creatures need.

Jesus points out in Matthew 6 that God feeds the birds and clothes the grass and flowers. And we are much more valuable to God than they, after all, God fashioned us with great care, making us in His own image! So Jesus taught us not to worry about what we will eat or what we will wear, nor about tomorrow, for today has enough worries of its own.

I take great comfort in times of uncertainty such at the season in which we find ourselves, because I know that God knows the future. And he never changes. He will always provide for his children.

There has been a lot of talk about this coronavirus being a sign of the end times, and I gather that there may be a sense of fear surrounding this possibility. There are some who believe that we are going to face the antichrist and that we who believe in Jesus are going to not only be persecuted for our faith, but also suffer tremendously in the end times.

Beloved, I want you to remember this, God never changes. Even if we are in the end times, he is Elohim, our creator, and he loves you. You are his beautiful and wonderful creation, made in his own image. He can provide for you even in the worst of times, and he will. Do not worry about tomorrow, leave that to our Creator, Elohim! He’s got you covered!

Let us pray…
