Dear Church Family,
Today we are focusing on the fruit of the Spirit. Galatians 5:22-23 says,
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.”
I’m sure that we all would like to experience more of these wonderful fruits in our lives! Who wouldn’t want to be loved and be filled with love for others? Everyone wants to enjoy inner peace and peace with everyone else! These are wonderful fruits! So how can we bear more of these fruits in our lives?
The key is to understand the context. Take a moment to read Galatians 5:16-26. Some of the Galatians think they can produce these fruits themselves. For example, they want to practice being more loving, study the Biblical definition of love, follow the Love Dare, or find an accountability partner. But Paul argues that these fruits do not come from our activities or our decisions. These are the fruit of the Holy Spirit within us. So if we want to be more loving, joyful, peaceful, etc., we must learn to rely on the Holy Spirit.
How do we do that? By humbling ourselves, recognizing that trying harder to be good won’t work, and asking God the Holy Spirit to fill us with the true fruit of the Spirit which only he can give! Take a moment right now and ask God to fill you with the fruit of the Spirit! Our loving Heavenly Father longs to hear us ask for such things, and he delights to give them to us!
