How can we receive God? What does it mean to bless the Lord? When do we show the Lord that we love Him? What does it look like to trust in and obey God?

Genesis 17 “The Gospel Through Abraham”

Genesis 17 “The Gospel Through Abraham” We are about to read the text of scripture where God gives the sign of His covenant with Abraham, the sign of circumcision. Does this sign apply to us in the age of the church? Well, Paul tells us that we who are Christians have all been circumcised. You heard me right, listen to Colossians 2:11-12: “In him also you were circumcised with a circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ, having been buried with him in baptism.” Let us then listen carefully to Genesis 17 as we read about the Abrahamic covenant knowing that through Christ, it still applies to us today. … More Genesis 17 “The Gospel Through Abraham”

Genesis 14 “Faith in Action”

Genesis 14 “Faith in Action” In this chapter, we will read about an extraordinary act of faith on the part of Abram. Four mighty kings conquer 6 tribes and then defeat 5 weaker kings, demonstrating that they are a mighty military coalition. They have come from all over the middle east for this battle. Their one mistake was taking Lot in the plunder, and so involving the servant of the Lord, Abram, Lot’s uncle. Abram is not a king, nor is his tribe very big, but he does a brave thing in this text and God blesses him. … More Genesis 14 “Faith in Action”

Genesis 12:1-9 “Abram’s Call”

Genesis 12:1-9 “Abram’s Call”
What would you do for a million dollars? If someone offered you a million dollars to hike up Mount Everest, would you do it? What if you were halfway up the mountain, facing frostbite and possible death, and completely forgot about the million dollars awaiting you at the top? Would you go on? Probably not. The only way to do hard things is by focusing on the reward. Abram was asked to do something very difficult, but he was promised a great reward. Let us read about it in Genesis 12:1-9. … More Genesis 12:1-9 “Abram’s Call”

Genesis 10 “Looking to God for Our Inheritance”

This morning we will see three ways in which God is the God of the nations: He created the nations, He watches over the nations, and He grants the nations their inheritance. This was a lesson for the Israelites who were being brought out of Egypt and had no home, that they too should look to God for their inheritance. God would take the land of Canaan from the Canaanites and give it to the Israelites for three reasons: because of Ham’s sin, Noah’s curse on Canaan, and their own wickedness. Like Israel, we must look to God for our inheritance; Israel’s promised land foreshadows our promised land. While Israel wandered in the wilderness 40 years waiting for their inheritance, we wander on this earth waiting for the return of Christ. Our citizenship is in heaven with Christ. When He returns, we will receive the fullness of our inheritance. So let us look to God for our inheritance in Christ! … More Genesis 10 “Looking to God for Our Inheritance”
